The Digital Leadership Elected Members joint project involving the Scottish Local Government Digital Partnership, COSLA and Improvement Service aims to:

  • Raise elected member awareness of digital transformation and what it means in its widest sense;
  • Explore governance and scrutiny of decision making around digital transformation including how we equip elected members to be able to represent citizens in areas such as equality, ethics and privacy;
  • Improve elected member use of digital technology to better engage with communities.

We are hosting a workshop in partnership with COSLA and the Improvement service to discuss the scope of the project and seek input from local authorities on their individual requirements.

We will hear about the journey that Glasgow City Council has taken to create a digital elected member champion and digital board as well as South Lanarkshire Councils’ plans around digital transformation and elected members.

You will also get an insight into the work the Improvement Service have been doing around elected member skills development and we will hear from COSLA around their recent social media research.

Who should attend?

This workshop is for council officers from councils within the Digital Partnership.

The event will be most relevant for key senior officers across councils who are involved in setting the direction of the council in terms of digital transformation including the content of committees/boards and development of elected members i.e. corporate governance/democratic services management. This workshop is not intended for elected members themselves.
